Description
“After You’re Gone” was completed in 2024 and depicts the fleeting spirit of a stag. In ancient Scandinavian pagan cultures the stag/elk represents the transfer of knowledge and wisdom from those who have departed to those who remain, here on earth in a mortal form.
The stag stands alone in a stream of cool calm water, from which all life originates, with the sky above showing scattered multi-colored points of light. Each point represents an individual person in a different stage of their life journey.
A blackened rose floats nearby dripping the last bits of its life, suggesting everything we know and love is just here for a fleeting moment.
The painting materials include charcoal, mica powder, acrylic paint, tar and black #3 acrylic paint, which is 98% light absorbing. The Stag is painted using only my index finger tip, so the painting depicts a ragged and imperfect feeling rather than a cleaner brush stroke.
This piece is 48′ x 48″ large. (Special shipping and handling costs apply)
